Well this week was a little interesting. The doctor's office called and let me know that I was Group B Strep positive, which means that I have to have antibiotics when I am in labor. The Group B Strep can infect the baby during birth, but it is harmless on me because of my immune system.
I also learned that I am O- blood type, which is funny because when I donated blood last year they told me I was O+. Supposedly South Bend Medical Foundation has a new way of testing Rh factor and I am negative now. What this means is that if I am carrying a Rh+ baby and our blood crosses at some point, my body will produce antibodies to the Rh+ factor. It would not harm this child, but if I were to get pregnant again with an Rh+ baby my body would fight the pregnancy. Therefore, I had to get a shot at the doctor yesterday that prevents my body from building up anti Rh+ antibodies. Weird huh?
On a final note, I am not dilated at all, but I am 50% effaced (my cervix is softening!).
